QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary or vocational certificate in childcare, child development, or behaviour management, including at least 3-5 years experience working with neurodiverse students.
  • Experience working with young children in an educational setting (Kindergarten preferred).
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and foundational literacy skills.
  • Passion for working with children and supporting the development of the whole child.
  • Demonstrated warmth, patience, kindness, empathy, respect, and enthusiasm in interactions with children and colleagues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive learning environment.
  • Highly motivated, with a high energy level, initiative, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and consistently high work standards.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage stress effectively in a dynamic classroom environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice.
  • Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Calgary Academy is seeking an Educational Assistant to support our Kindergarten team starting August 21, 2025. This is a full-time role that plays an important part in helping young learners thrive in the classroom.
We are looking for someone with experience working with young children, ideally in early years education, and with an understanding of foundational literacy skills. The successful candidate will work closely with the classroom teacher and contribute to a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

HIGHLIGHTS OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Classroom Support:

  • Foster a safe, secure, and predictable environment where students feel comfortable, connected, and cared for.
  • Support students in taking risks and actively participating in their learning.
  • Reinforce lesson plans through one-on-one and small group instruction.
  • Assist in lesson planning and preparation with the classroom teacher.
  • Help prepare materials for class activities and school events.
  • Understand student learning profiles and implement appropriate strategies and interventions.
  • Build strong relationships with students and their families.
  • Engage students by tapping into their passions and interests.
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher to create an effective learning environment.

Student Management:

  • Demonstrate and promote REACH values in all interactions with students and staff.
  • Use REACH language in guiding student behaviour and classroom management.
  • Provide timely, meaningful praise for positive behaviours.
  • Redirect and address negative behaviours consistently and fairly.
  • Apply classroom and school rules uniformly.
