The primary focus of this role is to assist in creating exceptional educational experiences for SCS learners, regardless of their location or the mode of delivery.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The Educational Assistant (EA) plays a key role in supporting instruction and enhancing the learning experience for learners in the SCS (School of Community Studies). They assist instructors in creating a collaborative and effective instructional team by providing both in-person and virtual classroom support, helping manage course materials and classroom functions, and fostering a positive, engaging environment for learners. EAs maintain regular communication with instructors about learner needs and curriculum delivery, model appropriate academic behaviors, and offer educational assistance to learners who are experiencing challenges. They also provide technical guidance and support for classroom activities, including breakout room facilitation, and work closely with instructors to ensure learners’ ongoing growth and achievement.
In addition to classroom support, the EA develops individualized learner program plans to help guide learners through the program’s structure and requirements. They collaborate with fellow EAs to organize and deliver extra-curricular workshops that enhance academic success, assist with creating and modifying learning resources to suit diverse learner needs, and work with Learner Success Services to coordinate additional support services, such as Individual Accommodation Plans (IAPs). EAs serve as valuable resources for learners, helping them navigate both academic and community challenges.
The role also includes supporting operational requirements by managing the booking and supervision of in-person assessments and exams and tracks the program completion requirements of the learners. Each term, EAs collaborate with peers and the Associate Dean to develop teamwork coverage schedules.
Other responsibilities include maintaining professional work habits by meeting deadlines, coordinating resources effectively, completing necessary paperwork and task tracking, staying up to date with reference materials, and participating in college, department, and team meetings as required.
