DEGREE IN AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) INTERPRETING, CERTIFIED ASL INTERPRETER CREDENTIALS, AND 1+ YEAR OF EXPERIENCE AS AN ASL INTERPRETER IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS. APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT MEET THESE QUALIFICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter position is available at a high school in Aiken, SC, for the upcoming full school year contract. This role involves supporting a 17-year-old student by facilitating effective communication through American Sign Language (ASL) in an educational setting. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:50 AM to 3:20 PM, with occasional after-school activities requiring flexibility.

Key qualifications and experience:

  • Valid Sign Language Interpreter certification with a minimum of EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) required.
  • Proficient in ASL at Level 5 or equivalent.
  • Previous experience interpreting for high school students preferred.
  • Strong understanding of educational environments and ability to support learning through interpreting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and educational staff.
  • Reliable and punctual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and effective ASL interpretation for all classroom instruction and school activities.
  • Assist the student in accessing the full range of educational resources.
  • Participate in some after-school events as needed to support the student.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Collaborate with educational staff to optimize student learning and engagement.
