DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION Develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive orientation and education programs for sterile processing staff. Conducts annual needs assessments to identify and prioritize educational needs and competency requirements. Coordinates individualized orientation and ongoing education in collaboration with education staff, sterile processing leadership, and clinical partners. Plans, develops, and facilitates annual education and certification review workshops. Coordinates education and in-service schedules across all system sterile processing department locations. Provides education, consultation, and support for sterile processing staff preparing for certification examinations. Collaborates with other departments and acts as a liaison to facilitate patient care and operational efficiency. Updates educational materials, develops resources, and ensures access to current information for staff recertification. Monitors and ensures timely staff recertification according to regulatory and organizational requirements. Facilitates learning opportunities for sterile processing practice among surgical technology students. Applies adult learning principles, systematic instructional design, and evaluation strategies to promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and lifelong learning. Implements quality improvement initiatives to enhance staff development programs. Maintains documentation and records related to staff education, competencies, and certifications. May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired. Three (3) years of experience in sterile processing. Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification by Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA). Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) certification by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) *or* Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) certification by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) within 12 months as a condition of employment in this job classification. Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) certification by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) within 12 months as a condition of continued employment in this job classification. Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) certification by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) within 12 months as a condition of continued employment in this job classification. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Experience in healthcare education, instructional design, or sterile processing leadership. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
