QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year previous experience in EEG or Polysomnographic studies
  • At least one year in a healthcare-related field in a hospital or physicians’ setting

Preferred:

  • Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R.EEG.T)

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Shift working, day or evening
  • At least 4 shifts monthly preferred
  • Per Diem (PD)
Responsibilities
  • Transports patients to testing area and explains the procedure to the patient/parent in order to allay any apprehension of the tests
  • Transports equipment to patient areas when necessary, to perform bedside studies, explains the procedure to the patient/parent in order to allay any apprehension of the tests
  • Calibrates and adjusts equipment, maintains equipment and work area in a clean, safe, and operational order
  • Assumes responsibility for the routine maintenance of the EEG and EMG equipment
  • Notifies the Cardiopulmonary Administrator if major repairs are necessary
  • Maintains a sufficient supply of stock
  • Applies suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions on the patient s head utilizing the 10-20 International Electrode Placement System and checks their performance
  • Selects predetermined electrode combinations as well as special combinations made necessary by the case under study
  • Maintains a statistical information log of testing and patient information
  • Assists with and assures the completion of clerical work related to the performance of EEG and EMG s
  • Files recordings and reports
  • Sends reports out to respective doctor, patient floor or other medical facility
  • Enters all charges/credits into the computer system
  • Obtains standard and complex recordings, recognizes artifacts and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them
  • Describes all abnormal clinical manifestations observed during the test
  • Adheres to and demonstrates practice of institutional patient and personal safety procedures
  • Attends mandatory in-service programs addressing fire, safety and infection control and other mandatory subjects at least once per year
  • Practices Universal Precautions at all times
  • Uses activation procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation and sleep
  • Performs other duties as required by the department s manager
