Description

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Health and Safety Coordinator that will be responsible for the company’s compliance with all requirements of OHS legislation, procedures and programs. It recommends appropriate measures and improvements, as well as programs and any other recommendations it deems necessary to maintain and improve the safe work environment. Promoting and communicating a culture of health and safety to employees is a key aspect of the role. In this regard, it must be proactive, creative and recognize and communicate the roles and responsibilities of each individual.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • College training relevant to the field of occupational health and safety or certificate in occupational health and safety.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in occupational health and safety management in a manufacturing environment and knowledge of the appropriate laws (e.g., AOHS, AIAOD,…).
  • Intermediate level English for communication with corporate management.
  • Strong leadership and skilled communicator.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma will be considered an asset.\
Responsibilities
  • Work with the plant manager and all hierarchical levels to further implement and develop an OHS culture.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety laws and regulations
  • To support employees in developing real safe behaviours.
  • Implement or update, with the help of the HSE Director, the various health and safety policies, procedures and programs (lockout, machine safety, working at height, ergonomics, etc.). Inform and train staff on changes and updates.
  • Coordinate visits and reports with CNESST inspectors. Maintain a good relationship between the inspector and the company.
  • Train new employees on occupational health and safety.
  • Conduct audits and follow up on corrective actions with supervisors.
  • Ensure that incident/accident reporting procedures are done properly and that appropriate corrective actions are performed.
  • Complete major event reports for the corporate in a timely manner.
  • Report events (accidents, incidents, first aid) in the database
  • Coordinate health and safety committee meetings, produce minutes and ensure the progress of actions.
  • Conduct annual evacuation drills.
  • Document and produce risk analyses for all positions and participate in the training of staff on corrective measures
  • Work closely with the HR generalist in the management of claims files.
  • Complete monthly reports for the corporate and various government bodies.
  • Support Lean Management OHS ("safety standard work") with supervisors/directors.
  • Provide coaching in the health and safety sphere to all staff and management team.
  • Make recommendations on opportunities to improve our processes.
