Description
The Environmental, Health and Safety function concerns itself with the health and safety of the plant employees through prevention of accidents, illnesses, and injuries as well as the protection of the environment. Included in the EHS function are fire, employee health, safety, security and environmental. Plant industrial hygiene is addressed through the recognition, evaluation, and control of those plant environmental factors or stresses which may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among the plant employees. The EHS Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the EHS Manager and assist with a variety of environmental, safety and industrial hygiene training, programs, auditing, reporting, projects, and monitoring. The EHS Coordinator interacts with management, supervisors, employees, customers, government agencies, contractors, and vendors. This person must have good interpersonal skills, be detail oriented, and ensure that compliance with Company, local, state, and federal programs is maintained. Responsibilities: Perform and/or assist with incident investigations and follow-ups including transporting injured employees for medical care. Participates in JHSC committee and serves as administrator Assist the EHS Manager as directed to conduct a variety of EHS training including but not limited to Lockout/Tagout, Powered Industrial Vehicles and timely environmental training. Assist with keeping employee safety and environmental training records up to date. Conduct EHS tours/audits of all plant areas. Send out reports of findings/discrepancies. Assist with and perform Ergonomic studies. Assist with inspection of plant fire protection systems (basic aspects). Assist with maintaining EHS Insight database. Assist in a variety of functions such as dosimetry and training. Conduct new hire EHS orientation. Assist with EHS program reviews and updates. Work with EHS Manager to maintain an active EHS program. Assists EHS Manager and respective department managers, i.e., Engineering and Maintenance, to help ensure contractors and visitors understand and adhere to plant safety rules and procedures. Maintain safety equipment and consumables supply and availability. Ensures all first aid kits are replenished and maintained as required. Ensures emergency showers and eye wash fountains are tested weekly, eye wash bottles are replenished and maintained as required. Assist EHS Manager in managing compliance with plant hazardous waste storage and disposal programs, Spill Prevention and Countermeasure program, and Stormwater Pollution Treatment program (as applicable) such as conducting scheduled inspections, maintaining manifests/records, maintaining proper labeling, and monitoring time limits for storage and disposal. Review Hazardous Energy Control Procedures and JSA’s as needed. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: 1-2 years of experience and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education. Previous EHS training with certificate preferred (such as OSHA 30-hour training, environmental aspects, i.e., RCRA, DOT, etc.) Must have strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, internal and external customers, government agencies, contractors, and vendors. Strong detail orientation required Knowledge of company, local, state, and federal programs required. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required Scheduling Flexibility Requirement: Must be able to cover 2nd shift at least twice per week (split shift) from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM as part of the regular schedule Occasional on-call availability in the event of an emergency Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: Employee will be working in a high noise environment around the presence of chemicals and hazardous materials, moving vehicles (forklifts), heavy machinery and temperature extremes.
