DESCRIPTION We are looking for a collaborative, highly organized professional for the position of EHS Safety Engineer in Japan. The role will support the EHS manager in implementing EHS programs for our operations in Japan, and be responsible for the full implementation of EHS programs at the operational level through close partnership with stakeholders. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent technical/science discipline. 5+ years of EHS experience - preferably at manufacturing sites or research and development environment. In depth knowledge and experiences of chemical and mechanical safety engineering and risk assessment. Deep understanding and operational experiences of national and local regulations and laws including Labour safety & Industrial Safety Law, Hazardous materials / chemicals laws (Poisonous and Deleterious Substances Control, Chemical Substance Control Law etc.), Fire Prevention Law, Environmental Laws on emissions, waste water, air quality etc. and Prefectural EHS ordinances. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS A certified occupational health officer. Strong communication skill (in Japanese and English) with ability to influence and work cross‑functionally (R&D engineers, facilities, and etc.). Highly self-motivated, self managing and continuous improvement mindset. Passionate to drive excellence, assertive and adept at innovative problem solving. Able to run multiple high priority projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities
The EHS Safety Engineer will support the EHS manager in implementing EHS programs for operations in Japan and will be responsible for the full implementation of these programs at the operational level. This role requires close partnership with stakeholders to ensure effective EHS practices.
