EHS Manager: The Impact You’ll Have On The Organization and World

  • You will ensure the Cowie site meets and exceeds Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards, particularly as an upper-tier COMAH site.
  • You’ll drive site-wide compliance with key certifications (ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001) and regulatory frameworks like PPC and COMAH.
  • You will directly influence and promote a positive safety culture, embedding EHS as a core value across the site.
  • You’ll collaborate with the Barry-based EHS Manager to foster consistency, knowledge-sharing, and best practices between locations.
  • You’ll provide critical EHS input into capital projects and risk assessments, supporting the wider European manufacturing function, enhancing the safety and sustainability of operations.

Life in Cowie: In this role, you’ll be located in a dynamic industrial location nestled in the heart of Scotland.
As part of the FPD EU team, you’ll work on-site at a key Bakelite facility driving sustainability and safety in a setting that values local collaboration and global impact. You’ll be part of a dedicated team in a close-knit community, with access to beautiful Scottish landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

What does a Typical Day Look Like? Here are your primary responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with PPC, COMAH, ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001 standards.
  • Develop and implement EHS policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Carry out risk assessments and participate in HAZOP, LOPA, and risk management studies.
  • Oversee the Permit to Work (PTW) system and associated safety controls.
  • Provide EHS technical support for capital projects and day-to-day operations.
  • Collaborate with Barry-based EHS colleagues to align practices across sites.
  • Support the Cowie management team with EHS matters and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Actively promote a strong safety culture and environmental stewardship throughout the site.
  • Participate in site emergency planning and serve on the COMAH Duty Manager rota.
  • Represent Cowie in internal and external EHS meetings and audits.

What is Needed to be Successful in this Role (Required Skills/Abilities):

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Occasional travel may be required (up to 20%), as long as it does not conflict with Cowie site priorities.
