JOB OVERVIEW

We are looking for an experienced EHS Specialist to join our Sparwood team on a temporary basis. If you have a keen eye for detail, love supporting a strong safety culture and engaging with people to keep them safe- we want to hear from you. Be part of something BIG and apply today!
Reports to: Senior EHS Manager
Shift: 5x2- Monday- Friday
Safety Sensitive: Yes- drug & alcohol testing, physical demand fit testing, RCMP criminal record check and submission of 5-year provincial driving record will be required
Travel: Up to 25%
Term: 18-month contract
Relocation: This position does not offer relocation

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • NCSO, CSO or similar designation required
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate required
  • At least 3 years of experience in an EHS role within the mining, construction, and industrial sectors (Individuals holding a valid Journeyperson certificate and willing to work towards an NCSO designation may also be considered)
  • Able to access any customer site without restriction
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Extensive knowledge of OH&S regulations, environmental laws, mining & industrial safety standards
  • Excellent communication, training, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage people at all levels
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Proactive approach to safety and desire to support a strong safety culture
Responsibilities
  • Provide EHS support to Sparwood and other regions as needed
  • Manage all EHS documentation- training, customer, and contractors for day-to-day operations and various projects
  • Ensure compliance with all local, provincial, and federal EHS regulations, maintaining thorough documentation and reports
  • Stay informed of regulatory changes and incorporate updates into policies, procedures and practices
  • Lead incident investigations, using root/multiple cause analysis techniques to determine underlying causes and contributing factors, and to establish preventive and corrective measures
  • Track and maintain incident records, prepare regular safety performance reports, and analyze data trends to guide future risk mitigation efforts
  • Oversee environmental compliance initiatives, such as spill response, waste management, and environmental stewardship programs
  • Support Komatsu’s sustainability objectives through initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption, waste, and emissions, and conduct periodic environmental audits
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to foster a culture of safety, engaging employees at all levels to prioritize safety in every task
  • Serve as a resource and advisor on EHS topics, offering guidance on best practices, risk reduction, and preventive measures
