Purpose of Role Provides support and administrative EHS assistance to an operational unit or function in delivering against the Sims Metal EHS policy, strategy, and plans. In this role, you will report directly to the Regional EHS Partner. This position requires working outdoors daily in an industrial setting. It also requires daily onsite travel. Principal Accountabilities Support the implementation and operational understanding of EHS policy, standards, and processes. Partner with front-line supervisors and employees to understand how work is done and how variability and context impact safe operations. Partner with Operations on the effective use of EHS tools such as Risk Assessment and Critical Control Verification. Assist front-line teams as they identify and manage risk. Provide improvement guidance and support corrective action development and continuous improvement opportunities, and record findings/actions in the data management system. Participate in daily safety talks, discussing site hazards and risks, and facilitating the use of the data management system. Support the investigation of significant EHS non-conformances or incidents and identify and communicate corrective actions. Provide insight on process hazards, safe work procedures, and job safety analysis. Provide feedback and give supervision on EHS-related communications and opportunities to improve. Assist with the implementation and understanding of EHS Standard requirements. Support the facilitation of site-led EHS training. Take part in and provide support to local EHS committees. Support the management of workers’ compensation, injury management, and return-to-work and rehabilitation police and processes, where required. Demonstrate personal responsibility for all EHS policies, procedures, and initiatives. Support diversity and inclusion, positive employee relations, and teamwork. Support measures designed to manage costs and adherence to budgetary requirements effectively. Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality requirements. Comply with all Company policies, procedures, and initiatives relevant to the job. Support training and performance-management initiatives. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Inspections (General and Critical Control Verification for Operations and EHS personnel of EHS Delivering and completing training Performing inspections Corrective actions implemented and completed Critical risk incidents Reported incidents/accidents Lost time incidents Experience / Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree, EHS-related certifications, and an equivalent combination of education and work experience. 3+ years of experience in an "industrial environment," working on Health, Safety, and/or Environment, or similar, such as Workers Compensation or Occupational Hygiene Supervisory and training experience relating to job performance and safety on the job is required. Skills Good computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, and presentation skills Ability to work effectively with a broad range of individuals at multiple levels. Ability to manage change and adapt to ensure continual success. Self-starter with a high level of resilience and ability to work independently with limited direction.
