Job Summary: Under general supervision, uses an electrocardiograph to record variations in the action of the heart muscle for use in the diagnosis of heart ailments in both in-patient and out-patient setting. Prepares graphs and reports, completes all documentation. Performs various related functions including clerical duties and maitaining equipment. Responds to emergency situations as required. Coordinates work efforts for quality patient care. Essential Responsibilities: Greets patients in a pleasant and professional manner. Prepares and explains procedures to patient. Operates EKG equipment by applying lead placements to patients. Prepares EKG tracing for interpretation indicating the required demographic information Responds to emergency situations as necessary. Assists and prepares patients for the cardiology procedures which may include but is not limited to Holter Event monitors, Holter scanning, Cardiac exercise stress testing. (may vary depending on medical facility specific req.) Maintains equipment in operating order and notifies supervisor of needed repairs. Prepares paperwork and EKGs for physician interpretation of inpatients and outpatients. Maintains files, makes copies of cardiac procedures and assists with any other paperwork as required. Maintains a safe and orderly work area. Answers telephone and relays messages. Schedules/reschedules patient testing procedures via eConsult and other appropriate systems. Grade 445 Basic Qualifications: Experience Minimum one (1) year of experience (of at least 1,060 hours) as an EKG Technician. OR Recent graduate (within the last year) of a certified EKG technician program with externship (of at least 160 hours) to include Holter monitoring, event monitoring and stress training. Education High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. License, Certification, Registration Basic Life Support Additional Requirements: Excellent interpersonal communication skills Must pass medical terminology test Must pass basic computer literacy test with a passing of 80%25 score Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment Preferred Qualifications: Preferred certification by CCI - such as CCT or CRAT or obtain credential within 6 months
