Job Description An electrician installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and systems to ensure safe and reliable power in homes, businesses, and industrial facilities. Core responsibilities Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, lighting, outlets, panels, and control systems according to technical diagrams and blueprints. Inspect electrical components such as circuit breakers, transformers, and wiring, then troubleshoot faults using testing devices and repair or replace defective parts. Plan and execute wiring layouts, connect circuits, and upgrade existing systems to meet new load, safety, or efficiency requirements. Safety and compliance Follow national and local electrical codes and building regulations to prevent fire, shock, and other hazards. Perform routine preventive maintenance to reduce breakdowns, including checking insulation, tightening connections, and testing safety devices. Use appropriate tools, PPE, and lockout/tagout procedures to work safely on live or potentially energized systems.
