EL1 Policy Officer
Labour hire contract
Location: Hybrid (Canberra-based, with flexibility)
Duration: 3 months with potential extension (up to 6 months)
Security Clearance: Baseline Clearance required

Hudson is assisting a Federal Government Agency department in sourcing suitable Policy Officers with proven experience in managing grant programs, with a strong ability to analyse and interpret legislation, policies and financial data.
In this key role, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of policies related to aged care reform. You will also oversee the management of associated grant programs, ensuring their effective delivery and alignment with government objectives.

The key responsibilities of this role may include:

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis to prepare comprehensive policy papers and briefing notes for ministers and senior executives on complex matters.
  • Lead engagement with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the smooth implementation of aged care reforms.
  • Oversee the quarterly payment process, including obtaining approvals and reporting on key program outcomes to senior leaders.
  • Supervise and mentor team members, ensuring task allocation, capability development and performance management.
  • Develop and implement policies and funding programs that support the reform of residential aged care services and align with the government’s strategic goals.

To be successful in the short-listing process, candidates will be required to possess the following capabilities:

  • Proven experience in managing grant programs, with a strong ability to analyse and interpret legislation, policies and financial data.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex issues clearly, including preparing briefings for ministers and senior executives.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with experience tailoring content for different audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple competing priorities under tight deadlines.
