GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: Teachers in this position are responsible for creating a classroom environment that is conducive to developing in each student numeracy and literacy skills: speaking, reading, and writing, that are fundamental to effective communication and literate citizenship; that develops appreciation of literature; that motivates students to read widely for information and recreation; that develops critical judgment of oral and written communications; critical thinking and problem solving skills that supports mathematical modeling and decision making; and that discovers and develops talents, competencies, and proficiencies to prepare students for college and careers in nursing and healthcare fields. Works collaboratively in both departmental Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and Common Planning Time (CPT), as well as grade level MTSS teams to ensure student learning objectives. Collaborates with Student Support Team (SST) to develop, implement and support assessment and interventions based on needs of students and on data/information provided by family, medical providers, social workers, and others. Develops lesson plans, curricular materials, and supplementary materials compatible with the Nurses Middle Colleges (NursesMC) mission and vision and congruent with the Common Core State Standards and/or state Grade Span Expectations.Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to provide opportunities for all students to demonstrate competency with content and skills expected. Adapts curricular material and pedagogies to develop relevant, thoughtful and sequential assignments that guide and challenge students and is aligned to the Nurses Middle Colleges (NursesMC) mission.
Differentiates lessons, units, assessments, etc. based on the needs of each student. Works collaboratively with the Student Academic Support Team (SAST) to adapt and modify curriculum, methodology and/or delivery of instruction in accordance to ILP, PLP, IEP, 504, ELL plans. Documents accommodations and modifications as part of RTI process, as indicated.Supports students social, emotional, personal health, and academic growth; works collaboratively with Student Support Team and Grade Level MTSS team to promote active listening, open communication, and problem-solving behaviors.
Teachers will work collaboratively with families as appropriate, to discuss community, educational, health, emotional supports and resources. Monitors effectively and collaboratively interventions and care plans of students to ensure that services are furnished accordingly, are adequate, or are appropriately adjusted. The Classroom Environment: Creates an environment of respect and rapport by managing relationships with students and ensuring that relationships among students are positive and supportive. Establishes a culture for learning and serious scholarship that reflects the educational importance of the work undertaken by students and teachers; holds high expectations supported through verbal and nonverbal behaviors for both learning and participation that supports students interests, talents and needs.
Establishes and monitors routines and procedures for the smooth operation of the classroom and efficient use of time; maintains a neat, clean and orderly classroom that supports and encourages student learning with minimal distractions/interferences. Supervises and is responsible for an orderly and business-like classroom where standards and expectations are explicitly clear and safety is a priority at all times; corrects and supports professional behavior expectations in a respectful manner; uses non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Monitors, supervises, expects and contributes positively to the school environment where professional behaviors are required at all times. Respects and honors confidentiality.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior and professionalism expected by the school and the healthcare profession; communicates effectively to encourage growth and opportunities for remediation as needed. Instruction: Communicates with expressive and academic language clear goals for learning, explicit directions and expectations, thorough and scaffolded content connected to real-world and student interests; allows opportunities for students to contribute to discussions and extend their learning; anticipates possible student misunderstandings. Uses high quality questions and techniques that deepen student understanding and develop critical thinking skills. Encourages and provides opportunities for independent thinking and originality.Employs techniques that stimulate critical (or divergent) thinking and problem solving.
Engages students to become intellectually active in learning important and challenging content and developing understanding through cognitive challenge. Uses instructional pedagogies, activities, groupings, materials and resources with attention to pacing and with optimal student engagement and learning as the target goal. Uses a variety of current technologies to enhance instruction and to advance students technological literacy. Employs formative assessment techniques to guide instruction and interventions; uses data effectively to communicate students strengths and weaknesses.
Aligns assessments with intended use, reflecting a sufficient number of items at multiple DOK levels, and scored objectively and collaboratively. Professional Responsibilities: Understands and participates in school-based initiatives and activities. Solicits, maintains records of, communicates appropriate information about behavior, learning strengths and needs and academic progress. Accurately and timely PowerSchool data entries including grades, attendance, discipline as well as family and student communications, meeting notes, and other documentation as needed; attention to detail and deadlines is imperative.
Maintains appropriate and timely use of email, phone and other communication systems.Maintains professional and regular communication with parents. Acts on the belief that all students can learn and advocates for students best interests. Strengthens skills and knowledge through reflection, feedback, workshops, seminars, and collegial sharing and participates openly and actively in professional development, mentoring, and coaching in a continual cycle of growth and reflection; participates in faculty committees, student extra- and co-curricular activities, and all required school functions. Actively participates in the Professional Learning Communities meetings, activities and initiatives.
Actively participates in family meetings, IEP meetings, PLC meetings, departmental meetings, and team meetings to discuss progress of students and develops plans for students and families to access medical, social, and educational services. These resources will support students success in school. Contributes to a safe, supportive, and positive collegial environment; always maintains positive and professional attitude and communications. Acts ethically and with integrity while following all school, district and state policies and procedures.Administers standardized testing in accordance with all policies and procedures.
Writes and implements a Professional Growth Goal that addresses personal, school, or district needs and aims at improving teacher practice. Plans effectively based on accurate knowledge of the cognitive, social-emotional and personal needs of students and how children learn and develop. Uses data deliberately and systematically to plan instruction for a diverse group of learners. Participates in professional development activities that provide information on academic, curricular, medical, social-emotional and educational services that are necessary components of a successful school experience and student learning environment.
Shares responsibly and widely with all stakeholders, and utilizes applicable information gained from professional development activities, participates actively as presenters of information to the wider school community. Responsible for maintenance and inventory of all NursesMC-CR school property located in the classroom; communication of repair needs as indicated.Other: Required attendance at various events is the expectation for employees. Attendance and meaningful participation in each planning day, professional development day, parent teacher conferences, new student open house, and graduation are required. Dates and times will be determined and employees will be notified as such.
Perform such other duties and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal, Executive Director and/or other duties that are necessary to perform the functions of the position.QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred, required within five (5) years.Current and active State Secondary Education Certification and Highly Qualified status in content area as specified and mandated by the States Department of Education.Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience. Experience teaching in an urban setting with multicultural families is preferred.Proficient in PowerSchool, Naviance, or other student management systems (SMS) required. Criminal background clearance (fingerprinting) required.Proof of U.S.
Citizenship, residency or work visa required.Teachers must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. They must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment.
