The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. Elections Deputy JOB SUMMARY The AMS Election Team is overseen by the Chief Electoral Officer and Chief Returning Officer who are ultimately responsible for ensuring that all AMS Elections are run in accordance with society policy and comply with the AMS Constitution. The Election Deputies will support the Election Team with in-person events and outreach activities, boothing and in-person voting during the school year to promote AMS Elections. Election Deputies will also be responsible for attending any in-person campaigns held by candidates, to ensure they comply with the Election Policy; and report any violations to the Judicial Affairs Office. Note: Deputies will be provided with election team merch to wear during in-person outreach activities when they represent the election team; and are tasked with monitoring compliance with AMS policies. Hours: Note, this role may involve a heavier workload around the Fall and Winter Election and Referenda periods (Oct and Jan) with a lighter workload in the remainder of the year. JOB COMPETENCIES Communication Organization Ownership Cultural Sensitivity Problem Solving Professionalism JOB DUTIES Support the marketing efforts of the election team in conjunction with the Marketing Office and CEO/CRO Monitor in-person and online social media campaigning held by candidates to monitor compliance with policy Report any policy infringements by candidates to the Judicial Affairs Office; and attend hearings as a witness if requested by the Judicial Committee Support in-person booths and outreach to increase voter turn out Provide feedback and input for the review of the first deslated election to be prepared by the Chief Electoral Officer, Chief Returning Officer with support from the Secretariat. Declare and disclose any real or perceived conflicts of interest to the Secretariat ahead of the election season.
