Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a great opportunity to join Suffolk County Council’s Elective Home Education (EHE) team as an EHE Consultant, working from Endeavor House, Ipswich or West Suffolk House, Bury St Edmunds.

ARE YOU A QUALIFIED TEACHER WITH EXPERIENCE IN MAINSTREAM OR SPECIALIST EDUCATION SETTINGS? WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK IN A VARIED, CHALLENGING ROLE SUPPORTING SUFFOLK’S ELECTIVELY HOME EDUCATED YOUNG PEOPLE?

You will:

  • Work alongside the lead, other consultants, and advisors to take a leading role in the local authority’s EHE duties, including safeguarding children and young people.
  • Contribute to the council’s responsibility to ensure all children receive an ‘efficient’, ‘suitable’ and ‘age appropriate’ education through school attendance or otherwise.
  • Manage an EHE caseload.
  • Lead aspects of the EHE Advisors work, supporting the effective management and triage of cases.
  • Contribute to the work of the EHE team to reach the ambitions outlined in the EHE Strategy for Vulnerable children and contribute to identifying and setting ambitions for 2025-2028.
  • Offer signposting support and advice to home educating families, educational settings, Local Authority Officers and a wide variety of professionals.
  • Inform the review of Education, Health and Care Plans for children who have special educational needs and disabilities and are being electively home educated.
  • Undertake analysis and review to ensure that Councillors, MPs, senior officers, and other stakeholders have robust and accurate information about EHE in Suffolk.
