Description GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Electric Superintendent/Safety Officer is responsible for the Town’s electrical distribution system including installation and repair of overhead and underground electric circuits, installation of services to businesses and dwelling, and some limited maintenance of substations. Work involves the installation of poles, pulling of overhead and underground wire, splicing and repair of wire, installation and repair of transformers in both energized and de-energized environments. The Electric Superintendent/Safety Officer will be responsible for supervising crews in the field, conducting safety briefings, and coordinating with contractors. The Electric Superintendent/Safety Officer will plan work, schedule necessary outages, and maintain safety records for the Electric Crew. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Competent with knowledge of how Distribution systems work and function Understand how URD and overhead systems work together Knowledge in substation maintenance and operations Able to perform work to OSHA guidelines and safety protocols Responsible for training and teaching lineman, both in technical and field applications Maintain stringent safety records for training purposes Operates the line truck in removing poles, setting new poles, positioning hole digging equipment Participates in hanging and connecting transformers Participates with Journeyman level line workers in stringing primary and secondary lines; attaching wire to insulators, and cross arms; installing, repairing and replacing cross arms, supports insulators, lightning arresters, and fuse cutouts; and maintaining and repairing street light system. Operates bucket truck and in bucket to wire electrical components. Assists in the installation of primary and secondary underground cables Assists in installation of sleeves, elbows, and transformers based on job site requirements. Works on a service truck and answers request and calls for various specialty services such as trouble calls; assists with the hook up of overhead and underground new services Assist all departments of Public Works as determined by the Public Works Director. Other duties as assigned. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years’ experience as a Class A Lineman. Minimum of five years’ experience with electrical principles and functions. Skilled in maneuvering equipment at the job site. Ability to communicate and supervise work crew effectively. Graduation from High School supplemented by technical training in electrical principles and some experience in a skilled trade; preferably electrical; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to compose training documents. Ability to train employees on all safety matters. DRUG TESTING: This position requires the employee to be subject to random drug testing as per the Town of Landis Policy.
