OPPORTUNITY

Glenisk invites applications from talented Electrical Automation Engineers who are detail-oriented and skilled in maintaining and improving automated production systems.
We are seeking a highly skilled engineer with expertise in electrical systems, automation, and control technologies. This person will play a key role in ensuring the efficient, safe and reliable operation of our production lines by maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing our automation and electrical systems.
Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager and Operations Director, this role is based at Glenisk’s facility in Newtown, Killeigh, Tullamore, Co. Offaly.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Relevant Electrical/Automation Engineering qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role within a manufacturing, food, or dairy environment.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial automation, including PLCs, HMI, SCADA systems, and control networks.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills in electrical and automation systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote and uphold best practice principles in electrical automation and controls.
  • Maintain and drive strong health, safety, hygiene, and quality standards at all times.
  • Ensure that all electrical and automation systems comply with the 2008 Electro-Technical Council of Ireland (ETCI) National Rules for Electrical Installations and relevant standards.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure all automated systems, control panels, PLCs, and operational equipment are running at optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve faults in PLCs, SCADA systems, sensors, drives, and other automation-related equipment.
  • Develop, plan, and carry out preventative maintenance for all electrical and automation systems.
  • Support the maintenance and optimisation of manufacturing processes through effective use of automation technology.
  • Work closely with production and maintenance teams to minimise downtime and increase equipment reliability.
  • Manage and maintain all control systems, electrical panels, and instrumentation.
  • Participate in the design, development, installation, and commissioning of new automation equipment and projects.
  • Review current automation processes and propose improvements to increase efficiency and reliability.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for automation systems, including schematics, programs, and maintenance records.
  • Ensure all electrical installations on-site are tested, inspected, and certified in line with ETCI regulations.
  • Assist in training operators and maintenance teams on automation equipment and processes where needed.
  • Monitor spare parts inventory for automation and electrical systems, and advise when reordering is needed.
  • Liaise with external contractors and vendors for specialist work when required.
  • Keep up-to-date with technological advancements in automation and control systems, advising management where appropriate.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping in engineering and electrical areas.
  • Provide full cooperation and assistance to colleagues across disciplines in a helpful, collaborative manner.
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of the company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
