Job Description
You will be the responsible for electrical systems compliance across all of Vattenfall Heat UK’s electrical infrastructure. As the subject matter expect on electrical systems, you shall be the Lead Authorising Engineer for the UK business as well as advising and supporting projects on electrical equipment, design, and commissioning.
You will be responsible for ensuring that permitted activities on all of Vattenfall’s electrical apparatus is following suitable Safe systems of Work that comply with legislation and ensure safety from the system, and its application. You will be the custodian and co-author to the companies electrical procedures and Safe Systems of Work and that the operators are sufficiently trained and competent to undertake the work.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Competent 11kV, or 33kV Authorising Engineer or Senior Authorised Person on an established DNO Distribution Network
  • A proven track record of working on and around the High Voltage distribution network
  • Sound understanding of engineering policy, procedure and legislation in addition to sound decision making skills
  • Able to identify and develop processes within operations to improve outputs and measure success
  • The ability to communicate and engage with internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of current legislation relating to Health, Safety and Environment
  • Ability to work within budget and within programmed timescales
  • Ability to work within a team environment including clients, designers and project staff
  • Full Driving license - you’ll be covering sites in London, Bristol and Edinburgh

Responsibilities

GENERAL JOB DUTIES

  • Working closely with the Director Asset Management, Heads of Operations & Delivery, and Operations Managers ensuring that all contracts and electrical activities are effectively managed to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory body electrical requirements.
  • Manage the company’s electrical technical compliance requirements ensuring the company complies with all internal and external requirements.
  • Represent the Company to customers and external agencies where electrical safety matters are concerned.
  • Ensure Operations Managers implement and maintain good engineering practices across the business and in particular:
  • Development of the company’s electrical maintenance management systems.
  • Managing the Company’s Electrical Technical Audit Process and assist with conducting audits across the business to ensure engineering standards are implemented and maintained.
  • Ensure that the company procedures and standards as expressed in the Company Handbooks are adhered to by all staff.
  • Mentor, develop, and verify training and competence of staff working on electrical systems.
  • Assist with the mobilisation of new contracts.

SPECIFIC AUTHORISING ENGINEER DUTIES

  • Assess and, where appropriate, appoint Authorised Persons (APs).
  • Own, and where necessary develop, the Electrical Safe Systems of Work.
  • Maintain a register of APs including their training records and the exact extent of the systems and installations for which each AP is responsible.
  • Define the requirements of any training that is required for appointment of APs.
  • Train and mentor APs to enable them to achieve and maintain the required standards.
  • Audit APs on an appropriate frequency.
  • Act as focal point for communication or escalation with APs.
  • Ensure APs are familiar with, and competent to, produce safety documentation.
  • Ensure there is a consistent approach taken to the implementation of safety rules.
  • Provide advice and guidance to the Director of Asset Management.
  • Report any systematic issues or deficiencies to the Director of Asset Management.
  • Subject to Director of Asset Management approval, update and amend the rule sets and other documentation as it relates to their expertise.
  • Arbitrate on any technical disputes or interpretations of rule set.
  • Act as a focal point for health and safety information and other guidance specific to your area of expertise
  • Liaise with other teams within the business in order to meet strategic objectives (e.g. Learning and Development, Business Development and SHEQ).
  • Use your expertise in the subject matter to develop and deliver a range of training to raise the engineering technical standards of the business.
