Description

This position focuses on programming and supporting Mitsubishi PLCs used in Hydmech products. Over time, responsibilities may expand to include other control platforms used in our current and future machines. It requires strong collaboration with other Engineering team members to maintain hardware and software control systems for all band saw metal sawing machines manufactured by Hydmech. Additionally, the position will occasionally require the designing of electrical control systems in EPLAN Electric P8 and providing support to the design process with the manufacturing team members. At times it may take up to 70% of the workload dependent on the needs.

EDUCATION:

  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • At least one year of relevant experience preferred.
  • Background in machine tool design preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of IEC 61131-3 programming languages.
  • Proficiency in Ladder Programming.
  • Knowledge of C++ language, QML, and Function Block Diagram is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Windows CE environment and IPC controls.
  • Knowledge of closed-loop control systems and PID algorithms.
  • Good understanding of VFD, Servo, and Stepper Drives applications.
  • Knowledge of EPLAN Electric P8, Pro-Panel, and AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Troubleshooting skills in electrical control systems.
  • Experience in motion control of industrial equipment.
  • Additional experience in CAN-open, Modbus, PLC-open would be an asset.
  • Self-motivated, well-organized with good prioritizing skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude, able to work in a high-paced environment with tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain, improve, and develop new programming for Mitsubishi controllers and HMI.
  • Design control circuitry in adherence to industrial standards.
  • Responsible for VFD, Servo, PLC, and HMI programming.
  • Responsible for machine and conveyor drive synchronization.
  • Assist with troubleshooting of our product to support manufacturing and service.
  • Provide assistance and instructions to manufacturing, assembly, and service teams as required.
  • Assist and be part of engineering office processes (revisions, engineering changes, information packages for outsourcing).
  • Provide support to the service department/creation of product manuals.
  • Produce electrical drawings and electrical Bill of materials for our products as needed.
  • Assist with the design of specialized equipment as per marketing/customer requests.
  • Provide input to improve functionality and manufacturability, and reduce the overall cost of our products.
  • Support the selection and sourcing of required electrical components for purchasing as needed.
  • Involved with prototype building, testing, and evaluation as required.
  • Support/maintain engineering information in the company ERP System (SAP Business One).
  • Adhere to all safety rules and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
