Description Electrical / Controls Engineer to design, develop, and support industrial automation systems. This role focuses on electrical system design, PLC/HMI programming, and integration of automated equipment to improve safety, efficiency, and reliability of manufacturing and process operations. You will work with Purchasing, Sales and Mechanical Engineering teams cross-functionally to deliver high-quality automation products and services that meet market and customer needs. Strong analytical, time management and leadership skills are also essential to this position. Design electrical control systems, panels, and schematics in accordance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA, IEC). Select and specify electrical components such as PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servos, sensors, and safety devices. Develop control system standards and architecture for automation products, projects and system upgrades. Program and troubleshoot PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Unitronics or similar). Develop and maintain HMI/SCADA applications. Integrate automation systems. Implement industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.). Support panel build, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site acceptance testing (SAT). Commission automation systems on-site and provide startup support. Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to minimize downtime. Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance teams. Create and maintain electrical drawings, I/O lists, control narratives, and software documentation. Create and build templates, libraries that enhance company standards Ensure systems comply with safety standards and internal engineering guidelines. Participate in risk assessments and machine safety evaluations (Safety Integrity Levels – SIL). Optimize operational processes to improve efficiency, quality, and scalability. Work closely with mechanical engineers, project managers, vendors, and customers. Support continuous improvement initiatives and automation standardization efforts. Provide technical input for project estimates and timelines. Develop shop floor talent through coaching and training. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Oversee the design, development, and implementation of automation solutions (hardware, software, process automation, etc.). Monitor and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and quality assurance protocols. Resolve escalations and technical challenges in collaboration with engineering teams. Build strong relationships with key customers, partners, and vendors. Act as the primary point of contact for all electrical and/or controls related issues. Assist in resolving grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers. Evaluate emerging automation technologies for potential adoption. Drive initiatives that improve product performance, reduce costs, and enhance customer value. Promote standardization, best practices, and knowledge sharing across teams. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Proficiency with Excel is imperative. High concentration of work will be executed MS office. Proficient with AutoCAD/AutoDesk software. High concentration of work will be executed CAD. Proficient with ERP systems, Infor Cloud Suite a plus. Proficient with robotic programming a plus. You will work with the BU Manager – Automation to help oversee the daily workflow and schedules of the department. Work Environment: This job operates in the BU office and requires interaction throughout the production floor and other departments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, copiers, and scanners. Physical Demands: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Standing, sitting, kneeling for prolonged periods on the production floor. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times. Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine needs. Will require travel to customer facilities. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time exempt position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 40 hours per week. Overtime will be required from time to time to meet the demands workflow and customer requirements. Wage: The starting salary for this position is TBD and commensurate with experience. Travel: Up to 25% travel is expected for this position to customer facilities within US and Canada. Occasional support will be required for company attended trade shows. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or a related field. 5+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering. Hands-on experience with PLC programming and electrical/pneumatic system design. Strong troubleshooting skills in industrial environments. Ability to read and create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and pneumatic diagrams.
