POSITION SUMMARY

Senior Electrical Engineer that supervises an engineering group in the development of the detailed design of various types of vessels, marine crafts and floating structures such as ships, barges, and tugs. Responsible for the development of the detailed design and 3D model of marine craft’s electrical components, performing drawing review, design modifications, and in general all production or shop drawings for new shipbuilding and repair/conversions.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering ; Proven knowledge in the use of FORAN 3D Design Software, AutoCAD, MSC Nastran, and Rhino; 10-15 years of Electrical Engineering experience in shipbuilding and 5 or more years of management experience on major Commercial Vessel Projects.

SKILLS:

The qualified candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Ability to interpret Contract requirements and specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD.
  • Proficient with at least one power distribution system analysis software program such as ETAP, Paladin, SKM, Easy Power, etc. to assist with various analyses.
  • Proficient with Classification Society Standards, such as ABS, GL, DNV, etc.
  • Proficient with the creation of deliverables such as Electric Plant Load Analyses, Electrical One-line Diagrams (AC, DC, Lighting), Short Circuit Analyses, Protective Device Coordination Studies, Voltage Drop Calculations, Short Circuit Analyses, Arc Fault Analyses, etc.
  • Proficient with ABS design standards, such as MVR, INSG, HSNC, etc.
  • Experience with execution of Government Contract for deliverables development. (Desired)
  • Experience with Technical Specification development (Desired)
  • Proficient with Government specifications and military (Navy, USCG) standards. (Desired)

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE

FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described. The Electrical Design Group Manager will work closely with team members to:

  • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Responsible for producing electrical system designs in a 2D and 3D software environment.
  • Interpret contract, class, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare estimates as required.
  • Review documents, diagrams, and analyses
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure quality deliverables are submitted in accordance with the Contract requirements.
  • Develop Technical Specifications to assist the Project Managers and/or Purchasing Department in the development of final Purchase Specifications, as needed by the contract.
  • Review Vendor proposals/submittals against Technical Specifications to determine compliance.
  • Produce detailed plans of action and deficiency reports to support the project objectives and schedules.
  • Assist Production as questions concerning design documentation to arise and work closely with shipyard personnel.
  • Mentor and provide performance-related feedback for less-experienced electrical engineers to the department manager, up to and including individual performance evaluations.
  • Prepare schedules for undertaking the assigned engineering work.
  • Supervise and lead a group of designers, drafters, and engineers in the electrical group, assigning tasks per schedule, and production needs and maintaining close tracks of hours used per assigned budget.
  • Supervise the proper development of contract change documents to support project needs.
  • Apply standard design principles and theories to complete assignments.
  • Create and develop production/fabrication drawings for all electrical products.
  • Responsible for identifying dimensions, cableways, equipment, and materials in the production drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with required design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings.
  • Make required changes, additions, and/or revisions, as directed by the immediate supervisor.
  • Preparation of drawings for class approval.
  • Develop and implement as needed, electrical engineering standards, work instructions, and/or processes
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly and/or indirectly supervise employees assigned to the Electrical Group. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
