Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Principal Electrical Design Engineer to take full technical ownership of complex energy projects. This role combines leadership, design oversight, client engagement, and strategic planning responsibilities across local and international teams. The successful candidate will drive the quality and safety of electrical designs and act as a key advisor to clients in the energy sector.

  • Full responsibility in coordinating technical assignments.
  • Lead and oversee multiple projects through all phases of design within area of expertise.
  • Monitor and report on projects performance.
  • Cultivate and maintain client relationships.
  • Become trusted advisor to all clients in the field of energy.
  • Manage group of engineers that may be either located locally or internationally.
  • Provide design directions to the project teams and control design quality.
  • Take ownership on health and safety and ensure safety in design.
  • Contribute to work winning by defining optimal design delivery strategies and estimating manhours for the relevant disciplines.
  • Monitor the mobilization of resources in the relevant discipline and check continuously their adequacy.
  • Ensure the localization of the project, interpretation of legislation and code compliance when design delivered by an international AECOM office.
  • Support the business in developing and growing the MEP team.
  • Develop technical strategies for proposals within area of expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical design, with a focus on energy systems (e.g. substations, power distribution, generation, renewables).
  • Proven track record in leading complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of relevant Dutch and EU regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Experience working in or with international engineering delivery centers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor engineering teams.
  • Deep knowledge of health and safety principles in engineering design.
  • Fluent in English; Dutch language skills are highly desirable.
  • Chartered Engineer status or equivalent (preferred).
  • Proficiency in electrical design tools and platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
