Description
As a Product Designer | Electrical Designer, you will work closely with an established engineering team to enhance existing products and drive new developments. This role involves designing and developing electrical engineering designs, drawings, and specifications to build equipment dedicated to the rugged and challenging terrain of the forestry industry. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in designing electric systems for heavy duty off-road machinery. The role involves developing machine electrical solutions for controlling hydraulic valves as well as lighting, auxiliary and engine-related systems. The candidate will also be called upon to develop software programs to control machine operation, working with the product manager and hydraulic designers. This opportunity would allow for cross functional team interactions working closely with our electrical team, software development team and our internal electrical harness and panel division. Location: 451 Elgin Street, Brantford, ON Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday Job Duties: Design of electrical system layout and selecting components for the complete machine Create detailed designs, perform calculations, and develop prototypes ensuring they meet performance, safety, and industry standards Evaluating the purchase of new components versus using existing components and providing a solution that best meets the needs of the company and our customers Researching switches, sensors, electronic controllers, actuators and other components to ensure reliability, coordinating with our electrical expert team Creation of wiring harnesses and working with harness suppliers, internal and external, considering the extreme conditions (vibration, temperatures, dirt, debris, hours) in this industry Detail CAD drawings, bill of material creation and maintenance Testing of vehicle systems in production or traveling for in-field testing Create technical documentation, including design specifications and bills of materials Identify opportunities for design optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements Close coordination with manufacturing, quality, and purchasing to optimize designs Provide field support for equipment troubleshooting and improvements when required Skills and Experience: Hands-on, creative, self-motivated, and passionate person willing to take on diverse and challenging technical tasks Design tasks require collaboration with coworkers; effective communication and reasoning skills are essential when working on projects that involve multiple team members Design tasks require collaboration with coworkers; effective communication and reasoning skills are essential when working on projects that involve multiple team members Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events Understanding of machine design fundamentals, detail calculations, and simulations Hands-on, creative, self-motivated, passionate person willing to take on diverse and challenging technical tasks or analysis to get a project completed Strong verbal communication skills in English, excellent written communication skills in English Able to work mainly in an office environment, with approximately 20% of the time assisting on various projects in a shop manufacturing environment and 5% of the time traveling. Qualifications: Electrical engineering, or mechatronics, eligible for CET or P.Eng Engineering education related to electrical, electronics or mechatronics SolidWorks modelling experience is an asset Previous design experience within similar industries to forestry such as mobile heavy-duty equipment used in construction, transportation, mining, oil and gas, material handling, landscaping, land clearing, and farming an asset. Experience in software development using Parker IQAN, C, C++, Arcadia or similar PLC/logic-based programming languages a definite asset
