Job Description We are looking for an Automation Engineer to join our Sri Lanka, Biyagama site within Avery Dennison, maintaining and optimizing automation systems for efficiency and reliability Operations & Maintenance Maintain and troubleshoot automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, sensors, and drives. Respond to breakdowns, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime. Collaborate with the Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance teams to improve machine availability and reliability. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance Support and execute the Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedule to ensure reliability of automation and control systems. Monitor automation equipment performance trends and recommend predictive maintenance measures. Projects & Improvements Develop and modify PLC logic, HMI screens, and automation programs in line with production requirements. Identify opportunities for automation improvements, process optimization, and energy savings. Work with vendors and OEMs for automation upgrades, spare parts, and technical support. Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with safety standards, machine guarding requirements, and electrical regulations. Participate in audits, risk assessments, and daily monitoring meetings to align automation activities with site requirements. Team Support and Development: Provide training and guidance to technicians on automation systems, troubleshooting techniques, and best practices. Share knowledge to build in-house troubleshooting capability and reduce vendor dependency. Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate documentation of automation systems, wiring diagrams, and program backups. Prepare reports on system performance, breakdowns, and automation-related improvement projects. Qualifications Qualifications & Skills: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field. 1-3 years’ experience in electrical engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong knowledge of PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, etc.), HMIs, SCADA, and VFDs. Proficiency in troubleshooting automation hardware/software and integrating field devices. Experience in preventive maintenance, system backups, and root-cause analysis. Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP). Strong problem-solving, documentation, and project execution skills. Good understanding of safety standards and machine safeguarding.
