Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the Adrian Service Center located in Adrian, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of electric utility operations, including generation, transmission, and distribution of three-phase alternating current power
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards related to electrical engineering
  • Proficiency in design and calculation software
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Understanding of electric utility distribution planning, construction, operation, and maintenance practices
  • Knowledge of distribution planning principles is a plus

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with two (2) or more years of electrical engineering experience
  • [OR] Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with two (2) or more years of electrical engineering experience
Responsibilities

GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the engineering and design efforts that support the sustainable operation of the electric distribution system. This role involves collaboration across internal teams and external stakeholders, and includes the development and execution of technical projects as needed.
This position is part of the Low Voltage Distribution (LVD) Planning group, which oversees planning responsibilities for electric distribution facilities. The role includes both office and field work, focusing on the performance of electric distribution circuits. Key responsibilities include electric system planning, project management, reliability initiatives, customer issue resolution, and storm restoration support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders to discuss current or potential engineering projects and products
  • Perform a variety of engineering tasks using computer-aided design (CAD) and engineering software and equipment
  • Ensure installations and operations meet standards and customer requirements by preparing electrical system specifications, technical drawings, and topographical maps
  • Oversee and coordinate installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements
  • Compile data and write reports on existing and potential electrical engineering projects and studies
  • Prepare specifications for the procurement of electrical equipment and materials; estimate material, labor, and construction costs for budgeting purposes
  • Design, control, and implement electrical systems and products
  • Develop, maintain, and improve electrical instruments, facilities, components, equipment, and systems for industrial, commercial, or residential use
  • Establish standards and specifications for construction, manufacturing, or installation through detailed calculations
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required
