ELECTRICAL CONTROLS ENGINEER

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Controls Engineer to join our growing team at Swegon North America. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting electrical controls for HVAC equipment and systems. The Electrical Controls Engineer will work alongside the application engineering team, service technicians, and project managers to deliver high-performing, integrated systems tailored to each client’s unique needs.
This is a hands-on, technically challenging role that requires deep expertise in controls and an understanding of modern HVAC systems.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience designing and developing electrical control systems
  • Extensive experience with PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi)
  • Controls programming and configuration background
  • Familiarity with low voltage (<750 volts) electrical design
  • Solid understanding of BAS systems and communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet)
  • Proficiency in interpreting and developing electrical schematics and layouts
  • Strong understanding of control system software and hardware integration
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or equivalent certification is preferred
  • Previous experience in HVAC, manufacturing, or industrial environments

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop advanced electrical control systems for HVAC equipment
  • Experience with PLC and HMI systems is preferred
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Applications, Engineering, and Service) to define technical requirements and develop project specifications
  • Analyze and troubleshoot control systems, resolving technical problems and providing innovative solutions
  • Integrate various building systems using protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, and others
  • Provide support for system commissioning, startup, and customer handover
  • Investigate electrical and electronic failures and recommend corrective actions
  • Provide tailored solutions for VRF system integration and unique control challenges
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and industry best practices (NEC, CEC, IEC, IEEE)
