SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering and minimum of 5 yrs. relevant experience in the Chemical or Oil & Gas industry
  • Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills to allow for effective teamwork on projects, relationship building across business lines, and sharing of results to other teams and third parties
  • Extremely self-motivated with the ability to take prompt action to accomplish objectives, effectively prioritize workload, and progress multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Adaptable and approaches change with a constructive and positive attitudeDemonstrated experience in solving technical problems, with the ability to think critically and analyze and interpret data while evaluating problems and formulating solutions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated experience in specifying electrical equipment and sizing components/wiring
  • Demonstrated experience in applying relevant industry codes (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ISA, etc.) to pilot-scale equipment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Visio, and AutoCAD Electrical
  • Knowledgeable of industry standards: NFPA 70 (NEC), IEEE, NFPA 497
  • Knowledge and proper use of Hazardous Area codes (Class 1 Div 1,2) to be able to classify the area and specify appropriate equipment, wiring and protection techniques.
  • Knowledge of various types of control, protection, monitoring, and data acquisition systems
  • Knowledge of the PLC based control system design
  • Knowledge of safety in design principles

Responsibilities

WHAT ROLE YOU WILL PLAY IN OUR TEAM

We are seeking a talented and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team supporting the Baytown Technology and Engineering Complex. In this role, you will be responsible for improving current and future unit operations for BTEC pilot plant facilities by employing long term engineering solutions to meet operations and customer objectives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Complete detailed electrical design work for projects
  • Specify electrical equipment such as power supply, transformers, motors, breakers, contactors, generators, substations, buses, starters, and other industrial electrical equipment (up to 13.8kV)
  • Produce electrical drawings/schematics/control panel layout/PLC enclosure/cable schedule using AutoCAD
  • Develop and review specifications for electrical equipment including unique equipment, Unit control systems, Motors, and Variable Speed Drives
  • Maintain close contact with operations, maintenance, engineering, and project development to identify and implement electrical equipment repairs and reliability improvements.
  • Commissioning, startup assistance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems with maintenance personnel.
  • Field troubleshooting of existing electrical systems, instruments, and other electrical components, ensuring that the installed electrical equipment contributes to safe, environmentally sound, and reliable operations.
  • Create project scoping documents to consolidate and communicate findings.
  • Provide technical support to Capital Projects throughout the initial project development
  • Serve as an electrical technology expert liaison between project engineers, plant/lab maintenance, and operations personnel.
  • Perform QA/QC on project construction.
  • Develop quality assurance plans and ensure quality of final work product against design specifications.
  • Provide routine support for pilot plant and laboratory operations.
  • Provide daily unit troubleshooting support as needed.
  • Review and support site management of change, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Update and maintain site(s) Electrical and Safety standards
  • Support of Global Lab Operations including any required travel
