The Surface team is hiring an Electrical Engineer II - Microsoft Surface Devices to focus on electrical design and technology development for next generation of Surface products that enable AI in edge computing. As an Electrical Engineer II, you will work cross-functionally with different disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, Quality, Software and Firmware) to develop compelling innovative products. You will design and develop circuits, select key strategic components, and engage with offshore suppliers and ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) partners. Responsibilities Develop Schematics and bill of materials (BOM) to meet the design requirements. Create motherboard floorplan and layout in collaboration with teams including the Mechanical Engineering, Quality, and Software teams. Create design documentation, develop schematics, board layout to meet system design requirements. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to optimize the overall system of the product from concept to completion. Use simulation and lab measurement data to support design troubleshooting and propose corrective actions, drive failure analysis, root cause analysis, and design of experiments to resolve issues. Work with suppliers, contractors, and engineering services to ensure that the product is developed on time with high quality Qualifications Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience OR Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience. Preferred Qualifications: 4+ years of experience designing, implementing, and shipping high volume consumer electronics products of medium to high complexity. Familiar with system level SI/PI simulation, and correlation to solve system design issues. Familiar with MCU (microcontroller unit) board design and verification. Familiar with High-speed interface protocols, electrical measurement equipment such as VNA, TDR, Bert, Scope. Experience preferred with x86 PC and or ARM architectures and implementation of high speed serial busses (PCIe, DP, USB4, Thunderbolt, MIPI) and high speed parallel busses such as: memory bus (DDR4/5, etc.). Hands-on design experience in analog/ digital electronics ranging from: RF, analog, digital, audio, video, power, electromechanical, low power, charging, touch display, and sensors. Experience communicating technical concepts clearly in both verbal and written forms. #W+DJOBS Electrical Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
