Take Charge of Your Career at Interstates At Interstates, we don’t just show up to work, we show up for each other. From our headquarters in Iowa to job sites across the country, we’re doing award-winning electrical, controls, automation, and OT work that powers industrial facilities for clients here in the U.S. and around the world. Whether you’re bending conduit, wiring panels, writing code, supporting projects, or helping things run behind the scenes, you’ll be part of a crew that works hard, shares laughs, and takes pride in doing quality work. We believe in building strong teams, doing the right thing, and making a difference in the communities where we live. If you want to grow and do meaningful work, you’ll feel at home here. Interstates is seeking experienced, licensed Electrical Engineers to lead complex, constructable electrical designs across industrial and manufacturing projects. This role is part of our PE Track and may be filled at the Electrical Engineer III or Senior Electrical Engineer level depending on experience and demonstrated leadership capability. Core Responsibilities (All Levels) Lead complex electrical design efforts from concept through commissioning. Develop constructable, NEC-compliant designs aligned with company and industry standards. Identify and mitigate technical risks early in the design process. Collaborate across engineering disciplines, field teams, clients, vendors, and utilities. Delegate and review design work to ensure quality and efficiency. Conduct peer reviews and approve drawings (PE stamping as applicable). Lead and participate in site visits, integrating field feedback into design improvements. Mentor and develop engineers and designers through feedback and technical guidance. Support estimating and project planning through technical input. Troubleshoot and resolve design challenges during construction and commissioning. Demonstrated experience in NEC-compliant design of medium voltage (MV) power distribution systems (5kV–35kV), including protection coordination, switchgear, substations, and arc flash analysis, is required. Electrical Engineer III (PE I Level) Engineers at this level: Serve as primary technical lead within their discipline on assigned projects. Manage and execute complex design scopes independently. Mentor developing engineers and designers on project teams. Support client relationships primarily through project delivery. Lead simple to moderately complex projects within their discipline. Typical Experience: 4–8 years of progressive electrical design experience. Active PE license (or ability to obtain promptly). Senior Electrical Engineer (PE II Level) Engineers at this level: Serve as senior technical authority across multiple complex projects. Lead multi-discipline coordination and resolve high-level technical challenges. Strengthen and grow client relationships through technical leadership. Mentor engineers and emerging leaders across teams and disciplines. Drive standards development and continuous improvement initiatives. Represent Interstates in industry forums and professional associations. Typical Experience: 7+ years of relevant electrical design experience. Active PE license required. Qualifications (All Levels) B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Professional Engineer (PE) license required (or eligibility for EEIII level). Strong knowledge of NEC and industrial power systems. Experience with electrical design software and drafting tools. Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary design-build environment. Travel: Travel up to 30% depending on project needs. Accommodations: Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals with disabilities. Compensation: The pay range for this position is $76,800 to $124,300+ benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by the experience and education required, and level of responsibility.
