SUMMARY:

In this role, you will report to the Applications Engineering Manager and be a contributor to achieving excellence in electrical engineering for electromechanical products including steering and driveline. You will develop and support production of a variety of new chassis components in a dynamic team, finding solutions to interesting challenges.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge, understanding with design, evaluation and integration of vehicle control systems and/or vehicle sub systems, diagnostics, control modules/software, and electrical system.
  • Must have a good understanding of embedded electronics, automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Flexray…), and real time operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of Model Based Design process and toolchain for embedded software.
  • Problem Solving & Analysis: Able to gather appropriate and often complex data and diagnose the cause of a problem before taking action; separate causes from symptoms; apply lessons learned from others who encountered similar problems or challenges; anticipate problems and develop contingency plans to deal with them; develop and evaluate alternative courses of action.
  • Self-starter with good verbal and written technical communication skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required. MS Preferred.
  • 0-5 years of related automotive experience with chassis electronic components required.
  • Experience with FMEA, FTA, and structured problem-solving techniques (8D, 5Y…).
  • Experience with Matlab / Simulink, CAN communication tools (i.e. Vector CANape), and/or other tools and processes related to automotive product development.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 26262, experience with CMMI or SPICE are a plus.
  • Familiarity with environmental, mechanical, and electrical verification testing methodologies in an automotive or environment.
  • Familiarity with Vector CANoe / CANalyzer is a plus.
  • Safety Critical Electric System (Steering, Brakes, powertrain…) development experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes of PCB’s, motors and other electrical components is preferred
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Routine interaction with automotive manufacturers, including international and service entities. Collect and clarify customer requirements and inputs. Lead customer technical reviews.
  • Be an active member of the project team by analyze steering systems feasibility, prepare and present comprehensive customer proposals, organize review meetings with JTEKT Japan/Customer as necessary to assure the development of designs that meet or exceed expectations, safety and timing at the lowest cost.
  • Maintain an open issues list to ensure open items are being tracked and closed to meet internal/customer milestones/deadlines.
  • Support benchmarking activities and new product improvements (i.e. VA/VE).
  • Participate and assist in, prototype/pilot product design, build, and testing (DV, PV, etc.) to ensure that the customer’s expectations are met and/or exceeded.
  • Lead and participate in JTEKT’s internal APQP process (Quality Gate System).
  • Lead and own each TC responsible gate which includes but is not limited to: building compliance charts per customer specifications, create and present design review material, as well as create and or update DFMEA / DRBFM.
  • Work with suppliers to review component design capability and support localization of components.
  • Participate in cross functional development teams within the company to develop and communicate program deliverables, priorities, and timeline targets based on customer derived expectations and internal requirements.
  • Create CAN interfaces in embedded environment as well as test tools (Canape, Canalyze, etc.) for tuning, debugging or customer demonstration.
  • Review electric and electronic specifications and drawings while provide improvements and optimization ideas.
  • Support the launch of new products into production as well as products already in production.
  • Work with the team to define and meet all customers (both external and internal) requirements and meet major milestones.
  • Create test plans based on DRBFM/DFMEA, requirements, risk assessment and changing points
  • Work daily overtime and Saturdays and/or Sundays when directed by immediate supervisor or, as necessary, to complete essential job duties.
  • Develop and maintain a responsive and cooperative working relationship with internal and external customers while treating everyone with dignity, trust, and respect.
  • Effectively communicate complex electrical design and changes to broader organization (internal and external)
