Description

LOCATION: NIAGARA FALLS, ON

A growing industrial manufacturer is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Electrical Engineer with expertise in high voltage electrical systems to join its on-site engineering team. This role is integral to the safe and reliable operation of a large-scale process manufacturing facility that operates continuously year-round. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, maintenance, and optimization of high and medium voltage electrical infrastructure, ensuring operational efficiency and reliability across various site utility systems.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
· Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario (or eligible).
· Minimum 6 years of industrial experience, ideally in high-voltage systems within a chemical or related process industry.
· Solid background in electrical safety, high voltage switching, protection coordination, and maintenance planning.
· Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Experience in hazardous process environments (handling flammable, corrosive, or reactive materials).
· Familiar with WHMIS regulations and best practices in hazardous materials handling.
· Previous involvement with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and their interaction with electrical systems.
· Skilled in leading cross-functional teams and managing contractor supervision during capital project execution.
· Proven ability to support system startups and commissioning after installation or upgrades.
· Project lifecycle knowledge: from concept development and funding proposals through construction and final turnover.
· Excellent communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Act as the primary technical liaison with the site’s electrical utility provider.
· Plan, design, and manage the installation and maintenance of high/medium voltage power distribution systems, substations, and associated protection schemes (115kV/13.8kV/4160V/600V).
· Oversee commissioning activities, ensuring systems meet safety and performance criteria.
· Develop smart device integration plans and support the implementation of digital and automated monitoring systems.
· Design and implement redundant and high-reliability electrical systems.
· Work on both new construction (greenfield) and retrofits (brownfield), incorporating current industry standards and best practices.
· Apply knowledge of industrial communication networks, SCADA systems, and fiber-optic relaying.
· Coordinate and lead electrical work as part of multidisciplinary capital projects.
· Ensure full compliance with safety regulations and internal standards during all phases of project execution.
