POSITION OVERVIEW

The Electrical Engineer/Safety Leader position is critical to the success of each assigned manufacturing cell and the health and safety/continuous improvement of the site. The Electrical Engineer provides solutions to technical problems as well as is accountable for the processes of design, testing, and continuous development of electrical equipment, components and system integration.
The position requires a strong production presence with the ability to communicate, support and learn. Sucess is measured through productivity, employee safety and quality. Experience working in a manufacturing environment, developing processes, and a background in quality and continuous improvement are essential.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required
  • Master’s degree in (Electrical) Engineering preferred
  • 5 to 7 years experience in a design or manufacturing industry
  • 3 to 5 years of proven continuous improvement experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles
  • Strong presentation, oratory, and verbal skills
  • Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian electrical standards
  • Work experience designing HV substations, hydroelectric plants, MV and LV distribution systems, and large electrical systems required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of required code for operation’s geographical area
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including executives
  • Able to apply right mathematical methods and formulas to problem solving
  • Able to create alternative solutions to problems
  • Excellent time management and project management skills
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures
  • Understanding of the industry and area of service.
  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects.
  • Strong leadership abilities, able to lead effective meetings and training sessions
  • Joint Health & Safety Committee (Management Rep) – an asset
