Overview ABOUT THE POSITION VHB’s Transit and Rail Co-op - Boston, MA is designed to introduce students into the workforce. The program will build essential professional skills by offering opportunities for hands-on learning in a supportive yet challenging environment. The intern program is designed to round out participants’ academic learning with real world experience and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path. Co-op terms generally run from June - December 2026. Co-ops will work on electrical engineering projects and will learn technical skills and computational software with relation to railroad and transit signal systems. Responsibilities Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner Engineering calculations Preliminary and final design plans Contract documents including specifications Engineer's estimates Preparing construction documents Produce/draw railway signal design drawings in CAD Survey of existing signal equipment on the MBTA's transit and/or heavy rail lines Skills and Attributes Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with clients Self-motivated with attention to detail Exposure to CAD software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD Qualifications Currently pursuing undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at Northeastern University Must have the ability to conduct tasks independently Strong interest in electrical engineering Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in Massachusetts is $19 to $30 per hour. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience. We are VHB!
