Description

Grunau is seeking an Electrical Estimator/Controls Engineer to add to our growing Electrical and Controls department. The Electrical Estimator is responsible for helping put together estimates for the controls and electrical department, while delivering attention to detail and timely turnarounds.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION/CONTROLS ENGINEER:

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans and specifications. Understanding of the construction industry and construction safety standards.
  • Knowledge of the mechanical or related construction industry a plus.
  • Knowledge of controls systems, planning of controls systems and mapping controls systems.
  • Solid math and analytical skills.
  • Can pay attention to detail, while still able to grasp the entire project scope.
  • Organized, can handle stressful situations and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, overall and with Microsoft Office.
  • BidTracer experience a plus
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Confident, comfortable communicating with all levels of the project and owner’s team. Can work effectively with a group as well as individually.

Responsibilities
  • Support all parties involved in the project including owner and client contacts, engineers and design team, contractors and subcontractors, suppliers and all field and office labor, to ensure completion of a quality project, on schedule and within budget.
  • Understand the project contract, specifications, defined project scope.
  • Work with Project Manager to create the objectives and budgets for the construction or service controls projects.
  • Work with Superintendents and Foremen to plan, organize and direct activities of the project and project schedules of materials they will need.
  • Visit job sites to assure job progress and ensure controls mapping is correct.
  • Review and aid in the coordination of controls material and equipment during the ordering process.
  • Help to develop materials and equipment for estimating contract change orders.
  • Support the Project Manager in sourcing material and equipment for the controls estimates.
  • Engineer the controls through systems such as BidTracer and create mapping for the field installation teams to follow.
  • Manage the files being entered into BidTracer for current and future projects.
