ELECTRICAL ESTIMATOR
Sharlen Electric Company is a full service electrical contractor that performs a wide range of electrical services including commercial, industrial, communications, underground and emergency services that is seeking a full time estimator. Qualified candidates must possess the following traits and skills:
1.0 Job Description Summary The Estimator is to perform accurate and timely takeoffs and estimates for all jobs assigned by the Chief Estimator of Sharlen Electric.
2.0 Reporting Relationships
2.1 The Estimator reports directly to the Chief Estimator.
3.0 Requirements
3.1 Education Required: High school graduate and must be knowledgeable in Auto CAD and BIM preferred: College degree, preferably in construction, engineering, math, or Business.
3.2 Experience Required: Three years electrical construction experience in takeoffs and estimation.
3.3 Skills, Knowledge and Abilities. Must have exceptional skills and knowledge to be able to accurately read drawings and other related materials to develop viable takeoffs. Must be adept at computer software programs (such as Accubid) Must have exceptional cognitive and spatial skills. Must have general mathematical skills
3.3 Physical Body positions: Standing, sitting, and kneeling. Body movements: Walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and full use of arms, legs, hands, fingers. Must be able to lift and/or carry 75 pounds. Must be able to work at heights as required. Body senses: Usage of all body senses.
4.0 Working Conditions. The majority of the time is spent in an office environment. This position does require job site visits where conditions can be wet, humid, hot, cold, noisy, dirty, dusty, greasy, etc.
5.0 Essential Functions. The essential functions of the Estimator consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Reviewing and making decisions related to Sharlen goals on all bid requests.
2. Accurately and timely performing all assigned bid requests, recognizing current schedules, manpower and expertise.
3. Reporting on bid status to chief estimator.
4. Bid projections for next 6 months reported monthly.
6.0 Authority and Responsibilities
1. Taking any reasonable action necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position, so long as such action does not deviate from established company policies and is consistent with sound judgment.
2. To make sure that all work meets the quality standards of the industry, the Company and the clients reasonable expectations and in compliance with all applicable codes.
3. Ensuring that all Company policies, procedures and safety rules are followed at all times.
7.0 Duties and Tasks
1. Responsible for the accurate development of material take-offs from the prints and specifications as supplied by the owner, general contractor, architect and/or engineer.
2. Responsible for the accurate development of cost take offs necessary for performing the installation of materials, equipment use and other labor functions as per the plans and specifications as supplied by the customer.
3. Determines what phases or parts of the project will be subcontracted to others, securing quotes and verifying the reasonable competitiveness of such quotes.
4. Determines what methods and processes will be used to conform to his/her take offs.
5. Updates the assembly prices used for both labor and materials. The labor and material update should be done on a monthly basis.
6. Compares various manufacturers and suppliers for best prices on material specifications.
7. Accurately consolidates all data from the take off sheets to the job estimate summary. This includes assisting the entry into the Estimating Program (Accubid).
8. Accurately determines quantity of assemblies, prices of assemblies and estimated labor needed.
9. Develops cost estimates within the time frame as assigned by the Chief Estimator.
10. Attends all pre-bid meetings as directed by the Chief Estimator.
11. Secures data necessary to develop change orders to aid project managers as needed.
12. As required, performs drafting and specification writing connected with RFI’s and clarifies problems, while not deviating from the agreed upon scope.
13. Looks for opportunities to cut costs when developing take offs from the supplied plans and specifications. Will then calculate the original according to specifications and also calculates an alternate proposal, then submits both alternatives.
14. Maintains full knowledge of Sharlen Electric’s capacity load and keeps the Chief Estimator informed.
15. Maintains an acceptable level of awarded bids.
16. Assures that the projects awarded to Sharlen Electric are producing the desired gross profit margins.
17. Demonstrates good judgment in respecting the confidentiality of customer and employee information.
18. Seeks guidance and direction in the performance of responsibilities and duties.
19. Works well with supervisor and all others in positions of authority.
20. Demonstrates ability to tactfully handle difficult situations.
21. Consistently shows ability to recognize and deal with priorities.
22. Performs all duties in an independent manner with minimal direction and supervision.
23. Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned.
24. Does not abuse or take advantage of personal days off.
25. Always provides proper notification and advance notice of absences.
26. Reports to work on time each day and after lunch and break periods.
27. Maintains a well-groomed, proper appearance for this position.
28. Performs all other duties as may be assigned.
8.0 MEASUREMENTS OF PERFORMANCE: The Estimator position will be evaluated on the following factors:
8.1 Utilization of Accubid.
8.2 Comparison of the estimated profits versus the actual profits.
8.3 Timely, accurate and complete turnover packages in job start meetings.
8.4 Internal customer satisfaction at 95% with all issues resolved timely.
8.5 Bids completed on time with accurate pricing and include all specifications and addendums.
