ELECTRICAL FIELD ENGINEER - WIND OR SOLAR CONSTRUCTION

Reports to: Project Manager.
Job Location: Field Engineers are required to travel to the construction site on rotation. We have various sites across Canada.
Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Electrical Field Engineer works in collaboration with the Site Manager and Site Coordinator. The incumbent will function as an expert in their field. They are responsible for the installation of specific phases of solar and/or wind projects on site. They also ensure the implementation of technical procedures on site and will act as an expert within electrical scope.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 3 to 8 years’ experience in similar positions, specializing in Power Systems
  • Experience with working with substation or collection systems is an asset
  • Experience working with high voltage is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written in English
  • High administrative rigor and geographical mobility, ability to work away from home for a period of time
  • Autonomy, leadership and ability to work in team
  • Excellent team management and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to adapt to high-stress environments and weather fluctuations (construction site)
  • Advanced experience with using Microsoft office suite, i.e., MS Project, Office, Excel, etc., and project management tools
  • Valid driver license

What you will do to complete this mission successfully:

  • Under the supervision of the project manager, prepare the contracts required for the execution and control of the work for subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants within assigned scope of work
  • Assist the superintendent in the coordination of engineering activities
  • Coordinate construction works in collaboration with the superintendent, environmental personnel, engineer, subcontractors, municipal and regional representatives, and the client representative
  • Coordinate work compliance inspections
  • Ensure that technical procedures are applied to the work performed on site in collaboration with the project engineer
  • Track purchases, receipt and inventory of materials required to complete the work
  • Actively participate in the implementation of the prevention program and support the site health & safety advisor
  • Develop and implement the quality control program for the electrical phase of the project
  • Conduct independent inspections in accordance with the Execution Procedures and ITP’s
  • Ensure that those responsible for the quality inspections of subcontractor’s work do their job and makes the necessary inspections as required
  • Ensure that all materials used in the work they oversee is deemed compliant by an independent laboratory or subcontractor’s quality inspectors
  • Compile and interpret the data and statistics related to the work executed
  • Identify issues and monitors corrective actions
  • Produce, in collaboration with the Superintendent, periodic monitoring report, the project end records depending on the progress of work.
