PERIOD OF SERVICE REQUIREMENTS:

General Entry Sailor roles now have an Initial Minimum Period of Service (IMPS) between 2 and 3 years for all applicants.

FITNESS REQUIREMENTS:

A Pre-entry Fitness Assessment (PFA) is no longer a requirement for Navy roles, except for Divers. To join the Navy, it’s important that you meet the necessary medical and physical requirements. Regular exercise prior to joining will set you up for success as it is an important part of training and service life.
Once you join, Navy will support your physical conditioning to ensure you’re prepared to serve. You’ll also have access to chef-made meals, gyms, sports and fitness sessions run by physical training instructors.

Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE:

Be an electrician in the Navy ensuring ships are kept in peak working order, by maintaining the electrical power, generation, and distribution systems. Whether you already have a trade, you’re an apprentice, or you have no experience at all, you’ll be paid from day one.
As an Electrical Fitter (known in the Navy as Marine Technician – Electrical), you’ll gain all the skills needed with extensive on-the-job trade training and get a Certificate III in Engineering – Electrical Fitting, with opportunities to obtain further qualifications (up to and including a Diploma). You may also be able to use your existing qualifications and be eligible for recognition of prior learning.
