ABOUT US:

National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. Gas is an essential part of a secure energy supply in Britain, and will continue to play a vital role for decades to come. More than ever, we need the security that gas brings to keep the lights on, businesses running, and to protect jobs. National Gas provides that security.

National Gas is also proud to lead the way in transforming the energy network for a net zero future. Gas provides the energy security to support renewable electricity generation, and we are developing our infrastructure to transport hydrogen and carbon dioxide across the country.

Responsibilities

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to join our East area operations team. In this role, you’ll carry out maintenance, fault-finding and repair activities on electrical, control and instrumentation systems to ensure the continuous and safe operation of our gas transmission assets.

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair faults to minimise downtime
  • Calibrate, test, and maintain instrumentation to ensure compliance with operational standards
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and modifications of E&I equipment
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, in accordance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety procedures
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
  • Support operational teams during planned shutdowns and emergency repairs

Travel will be a key part of this role, as you’ll be covering multiple sites across the ‘East 3’ region of the UK - ranging from Lutton to Roudham Heath to Peters Green. Your primary base, or ‘hub’, will be either the Huntingdon or Cambridge Compressor Station (depending on your location), which is centrally located within the area you’ll be supporting. You may also be required to participate in a standby rota 1 week in every 4 or 5, dealing with various faults for which you will get additional compensation for.
You’ll also need to attend training courses at various locations to support your ongoing development and build your knowledge and experience.
