Description

This is a great opportunity for an entry-level engineer with an electrical engineering background. This person will support power plant performance, project execution, and data analysis across our generating fleet, including electrical and non-electrical systems. They will provide engineering support to a large coal-fired power plant and two simple cycle natural gas power plants.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree required in Electrical Engineering.
Licenses and Certifications: Professional engineering certification or Engineer-In-Training certification, desirable.

Experience:

  • Zero to two years of experience in a related engineering field or internship
  • Relevant on-the-job experience or education above and beyond that described above may be substituted for part of the experience and education requirement.

Abilities & Skills Required:

  • Strong mathematics background and the ability to apply analytical skills to problem solving.
  • Ability to convert technical data into written reports and graphic presentations using personal computer applications, including spreadsheet applications software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements
Frequent: Sedentary work, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods, close visual acuity, work with a computer, keyboard, communicate with others
Periodic: Lift objects of nominal weight. Work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, and lift objects; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Work Environment
Travel out-of-office is required primarily within Ohio approximately 25% of the time and can include overnight stays

Responsibilities
  • Apply electrical engineering knowledge to analyze plant performance, support project development, and assist in solving both electrical and cross-disciplined technical problems.
  • Collaborate with plant staff and internal teams to review project designs, support capital improvements, and ensure consistency with design standards and operational goals.
  • Review, prepare, and present technical documents such as improvement requisitions, studies, and reports.
  • Analyze and interpret operational data from fossil generating units to identify trends, optimize performance, and recommend improvements—regardless of whether the data is electrical in nature.
  • Learn and apply Buckeye Power’s Electrical Design Standards and Circular Letters to projects and system upgrades at Cardinal, Mone, and Greenville stations.
  • Serve as a technical resource for electrical design reviews and support engineering consultants during capital project development.
  • Assist with monthly metric reporting responsibilities.
  • Complete regulatory reports such as the DOE EIA-860 Annual Generator Report.
  • Gain a working knowledge of plant emissions controls, fuel flexibility strategies, and dispatch economics to support efficiency and cost optimization goals.
  • Coordinate and support project work at our natural gas simple cycle plants, Mone and Greenville.
