Overview Shimmick, via our subsidiary Axia Electric, is seeking a highly talented Electrical Safety Manager based in Riverside, CA to support heavy civil electrical construction projects including underground/overhead utilities, substations, trenching & excavation, energized work controls, and large-scale infrastructure construction. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with Cal/OSHA, OSHA, and NFPA 70E, while building a culture of accountability, operational discipline, and incident prevention. This position is expected to be visible in the field daily, actively coaching crews, verifying safe work practices, and partnering with supervision to eliminate hazards before they become incidents. Axia Electric, LLC Since the early 1990s, Shimmick has been self-performing electrical scopes for infrastructure projects. In 2025 the Electrical Division rebranded to Axia Electric, a subsidiary to Shimmick Construction. Axia offers electrical, instrumentation, and process controls expertise for water and wastewater treatment; dams and locks; mass transit and rail; alternative energy; power generation and transmission; and commercial building projects. Our ability to self-perform this specialty work offers additional value and enables us to better control cost and schedule for projects with major electrical and process mechanical scopes. Our clients include municipalities, water districts, sanitation districts, transit agencies, private developers, DOTs, and USACE. Responsibilities The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Serve as the on-site safety representative supporting heavy civil and electrical operations. Under limited supervision, responsible for moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, safety and health disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements. Maintains current knowledge of specific government agency requirements. Exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of their environmental specialty. Verify compliance with NFPA 70E requirements Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions. Develops, implements and maintains safety and health programs, systems and procedures. Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases in the work area. Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace. Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards. Develops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice. May act as a lead role for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel. May administer an ES&H program on a small or medium-sized project. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. Must be able to maintain 3 points of contact when climbing a ladder. Must have a valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications: 10+ years of relevant experience in heavy civil and electrical construction. Experience supporting substation, utilitiy infrastructure, high voltage, switching yards and electrical rooms. NFPA 70E Training Certificate OSHA 30, 500, 510 Certifications Competent Person Certifications ie: Confined/Enclosed Space, Fall Protection, Trenching & Excavation. CHST Certification STSC Certification Additional Information: Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test. This position does not include sponsorship for a United States work authorization. The salary range for this position is between $130,000-$155,000 per year depending on experience and/or education.
