DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Electrical Systems and Controls Engineer is a technical expert responsible for the development, integration, and lifecycle support of complex electrical and embedded systems across the company’s product portfolio. This role blends advanced electrical design, controls, and product development, ensuring the seamless functionality and long-term reliability of consumer and commercial products. This is a hands-on engineering role that leads the technical design while ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
The individual in this role will lead system-level design initiatives, serve as a key technical advisor across teams, and integrate hardware and software development efforts for innovative, next-generation products. This is a hands-on role that sets the technical direction while ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
Reports To: Director of Engineering

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Technology
  • 5-10+ years of experience in electrical design, embedded controls, and product development
  • Experience in mobile app integration with embedded systems (desired)
  • Extensive experience in developing products for mass production with regulatory certification
  • Demonstrated success leading complex projects involving cross-discipline teams
  • Experience with SMT troubleshooting, PCBA repair and soldering
  • Experience with designing products to meet industry standards (i.e. CSA, UL, CE)
  • Good interpersonal skills required to work effectively in a highly productive team environment
  • Previous experience working directly and remotely with domestic and international teams.
  • Demonstrated intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Word, with exceptional expertise in Excel.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Drive systems-level architecture and design strategy for all electrical systems, sensors, interfaces, and controls.
  • Manage electrical projects from conception through completion, coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure project goals and deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional product teams (including Mechanical, Quality, Product Management, and Manufacturing) from concept through production.
  • Coordinates closely with internal and outside supplier engineers, designers, and technicians throughout all stages of the product design and improvement processes.
  • Interface with 3rd party design resources, suppliers, regulatory agencies, and contract manufacturers—domestically and internationally.
  • Management of engineering lab, including: organization, calibrated equipment, testing equipment and supplies

Product Development & Integration

  • Design, prototype, and validate electrical and control systems, analog/digital circuits, and motor control systems.
  • Utilize development and prototyping systems (i.e. Raspberry Pi, Arduino, breadboards) for development of products and automated test systems
  • Ensure systems are designed with diagnostics, and future-proofing in mind.
  • Conduct system-level root cause analysis and corrective action implementations for product development and life-cycle management

Testing & Validation

  • Responsible for the development and execution of verification and validation protocols across electrical, firmware, and mobile apps
  • Use data acquisition tools to analyze system performance in lab and field tests.
  • Conduct system-level root cause analysis and corrective action implementations.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure products meet UL, CSA, CE, ETL or other regulatory certifications across global markets.
  • Implement and support DFMEA, PFMEA, and other risk assessment methodologies.
  • Drive continuous improvement in system reliability, user experience, and serviceability.

Documentation and Analyzing

  • Create and maintain system schematics, test reports, functional block diagrams, and software architecture documents.
  • Manage lifecycle documentation for traceability and support of quality audits and sustaining engineering.
