Description
An electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, and control systems in residential settings. They ensure all work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes.   Key Responsibilities & Duties * Installation & Maintenance: Install new electrical components (switches, panels, light fixtures) and perform preventive maintenance to ensure safe, functional systems. * Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose faulty wiring or malfunctioning equipment using test devices like ammeters and voltmeters, and perform necessary repairs. * System Upgrades: Replace old wiring, circuit breakers, and lighting systems to meet modern safety standards and energy efficiency requirements. * Blueprint Interpretation: Read technical diagrams, blueprints, and layouts to determine the location of circuits, outlets, and electrical systems. * Compliance & Safety: Adhere strictly to the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes, prioritizing safety protocols such as lock-out/tag-out. * Documentation: Maintain records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on tasks.   Common Requirements * Licensure: Valid journeyman or master electrician license (often required by state/city). * Experience: Previous experience in residential maintenance, with specialized experience often preferred for high-rise building environments. * Education: Completion of an electrician apprenticeship program and/or a technical school diploma. * Skills: Strong troubleshooting abilities, knowledge of electrical theory, manual dexterity, and proficiency in using hand and power tools. * Physical Demands: Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and lift heavy equipment.   Working Conditions * Work may be indoors or outdoors, involving exposure to seasonal weather. * Often requires working on-call, evenings, or weekends, especially for maintenance roles. * Requires wearing protective equipment and strictly following safety procedures to avoid electrical hazards. Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
