Description
Summary Responsible for installing and repairing wiring, fixtures, and equipment for all electrical services aboard ship and in shipyard facilities, following blueprints and wiring diagrams. The individual must have working knowledge of electrical theory and procedures and the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and install shipboard electrical systems and equipment (600 V and less) in accordance with specifications and drawings. Qualifications, duties, and responsibilities 1. Installs conduit to bulkheads with brackets and screws, using hand tools, and threads wires through conduit to terminals, such as connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, and switch panels. 2. Strip insulation from wire ends and solders ends to terminals, using stripping pliers and soldering iron. 3. Runs cables, lines and leads, terminations/connector fabrication, packing of cable transits and harnessing cables. 4. Connects power-supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, fire control, and other electronic equipment. Tests electrical characteristics, such as voltage, resistance, and phase angle, in circuits, using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and phase rotation indicators. May construct instrument panels, using hand tools, rulers, dividers, and power drills, following specifications. 5. Test internal circuits of major units or electrical equipment for continuity, short circuits, and grounds and measure electrical quantities and compare with established values. 6. Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards. PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc. Qualifications Position Requirements * Must be 18 years of age or older. * Must be a U.S. person. * Must be able to work at heights. * Must be able to work in confined and enclosed spaces. * Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions. * Must be available to work all 3 shifts, and weekends, as required. * Must be able to lift 50lbs. Education and Experience * Must have five (5) years of related electrical installation and repair experience with a general knowledge of blue prints and hand tools.
