Position Purpose: The Electrician Grade 1 is responsible for performing, with minimum supervision, skilled tasks in the installation, maintenance and repair of the physical plant. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan. CORE ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES: An employee in this classification is required to perform duties consisting of, but not restricted to the following:  * Operation, repairs, installations & preventative maintenance of all electrical, fire alarm and communication systems.  * Assist with related maintenance duties.  * Prepare material list if requested for projects or work orders.  * Advise other units regarding requested installations or repairs.  * Follows all branch instructions.  * Attends appropriate training courses as required. TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: * Must have competed high school, OSSD, or equivalent.  * Must have a minimum of 5 years proven experience in the same or similar position.  * Must possess an active 309A (Electrician, Construction & Maintenance) Journeyperson trade license valid in the Province of Ontario.  * Experienced in all aspects of the Electrical trade including fire alarms, telephone and intrusion systems, motors & control systems and low & high voltage systems.  * Must be able read architectural, mechanical and electrical plans and schematic drawings.  * Must be able to read, understand and utilize technical manuals.  * Must have working knowledge of the Ontario Building code and Electrical code and all other code & regulations affecting their work.  * Must have Working at Heights, Fall Arrest and Elevated Work Platforms Certificates.  * Must ensure all applicable licenses and certificates remain valid and in good standing. Copies of licenses and certificates to be provided at time of hire and upon renewal.  * Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.  * Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation.  * Must possess an unrestricted Class G driver’s license valid in the Province of Ontario along with a good driving record.  * Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems.  * Must be able to work weekends, shifts and holidays as scheduled.  * Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.  * Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position.
