JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Electro-Mechanical Designer will utilize sound electro-mechanical knowledge and experience to execute integrated Warehouse Solutions projects for customers. The role requires the application of standard products & components as well as custom electrical/mechanical design of new features/integration with field equipment. A strong foundation and understanding of industrial electrical controls is a requirement.

EDUCATION:

  • Degree or Diploma in mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, electrical engineering, or systems engineering with exposure to mechanical design, electrical design, control integration, and PLC programming.
  • Solidworks training courses an asset.
  • P.Eng. designation an asset.
  • AutoCAD certification an asset.
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Maintain valid passport with ability to travel in North America as needed, less than 10%.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of related experience as a Mechanical Engineer/Designer, Electrical Engineer/Designer, Applications Engineer, or related position.
  • Industrial Controls Design experience
  • Exceptional skills using Solidworks PDM Professional in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience working in Lean manufacturing environment, methods, and process improvement programs.
  • Experience with installing, integrating, and commissioning custom industrial equipment.
  • Experience with PLC programming & troubleshooting an asset.
  • Experience with developing material handling equipment an asset.
  • Proficient software experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics NAV or CSI (Cloud Suite Industrial), and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project).

Responsibilities
  • Own projects from kickoff through design, procurement, manufacture, shipping & commissioning.
  • Comprehend the project technical objectives. Create and manage the design to this end through collaboration with sales, project management and production groups.
  • Control established design/build timing targets to meet customer requirements.
  • Responsible for the ERP job content, bill of materials, requisitioning of materials, release of production orders, release of electrical and mechanical manufacturing drawings.
  • Create installation and commissioning instructions supporting field resources.
  • Independently develop workable electrical designs utilizing standard schematic sets, customization of control & power circuits, develop new project specific electrical features.
  • Strong Autocad skills for schematic development.
  • Strong 3D Solidworks skills for electrical enclosure design & cable management features.
  • Complete mechanical designs and drawings using Solidworks and Autocad.
  • Set-up, organize and maintain Solidworks PDM drawings data for use by the engineering and manufacturing team.
  • Develop control designs for mechanical systems including component specifications, component selection, enclosure design, programming, interconnection, and cable design.
  • Generate manuals to accompany product, when required.
  • Be responsible for establishing and maintaining CAD data standards, structures, processes, and supporting documents for the engineering team.
  • Check for errors which cause rework and mistakes.
  • Document changes to projects or jobs and ensure proper documentation occurs.
  • Make recommendations on products, designs, and materials for cost improvement.
  • Attend project kick off meetings, site visits, department meetings and project debrief meetings.
  • Liaise with the manufacturing team to ensure design/project is executed correctly and within timelines.
  • Proactively provide technical support for shop production.
  • Collaborate with the installation team &service department and respond to questions and/or problems before and during the installation stage of projects.
