Our electro-optical engineers are often working on ground-breaking digital imaging, thermal imaging and laser positioning systems while navigating the complexity of integrating the latest optics technology into our world-class intelligence/surveillance/reconnaissance systems.

Subject Matter Expertise We Look For

Admittedly, expectations on this team are high – for a reason. Optics are at the core of what we do at L3 WESCAM, and the degrees of subject matter expertise vary. If your areas of specialization fit into any of the following, you should definitely join our Talent Community:

Your area of expertise may include something we need immediately, or later on down the road – but at some point in time, we’d like a chance to get to know you a little better.
Education / Academic Backgrounds We Look For
Our senior members of our team have achieved some of the highest levels of academics in the organization. Amongst them are Ph.D.’s and Masters in a collection of either Physics, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics (with a specialization in Optics, Quantum Mechanics or Photonics).
Our junior and intermediate team members have started out their careers with Bachelors / Undergraduate degrees in Physics, or Engineering degrees with a specialization in Optics.
Skills, Experience and Competencies We Look For

While this list is in no particular order - if you are able to identify most of the following within your own inventory of skills and experiences, we would be thrilled if you joined others like you in our talent community.

  • Familiarity with various image sensor technologies (ie: CCD, CMOS, Thermal Imagers, etc)
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills,
  • Proficient with Matlab or a similar language
  • Proficient in optics and electronics lab environments (clean rooms etc)
  • Understanding of analog and digital video concepts including:
  • Colour science
  • NTSC & PAL standards
  • Digital video standards
  • Resolution and sensitivity measurements (MRTD, MRC, NETD, MTF, etc)
  • Familiar with a wide range of engineering fields (mainly Mechanical, Electrical & Software)
  • Knowledge of Optical Design software (CodeV or Zemax) an asset
  • Knowledge of range performance modeling tools (Modtran, NVTherm, SSCam, etc) an asset

We don’t just look for geniuses either – you’ll need to have a few other things to keep you balanced. For example, you’ll need all of your five senses to be on-point with the rest of us - Humour, Humility, Belonging, Urgency and Self.
Also, the ability to play a musical instrument is also high on the list – we have 7 in-company bands and we’re always looking for a guitar lead or a drummer.
