As a member of our advanced battery development organization, you will work with world class R&D teams and industry partners to develop advanced battery materials and enable new cell chemistry for Apple’s products. Successful candidates will have proven expertise in electrochemical testing and analysis of lithium-ion battery cells, as well as a creative mindset to drive innovation through collaboration with multi-functional teams and external partners.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Leading expert in applying electrochemical principles and methods for battery R&D with a focus on generating electrochemical data and insights to drive purposeful innovations of battery materials for next generation cell chemistries; materials include cathode/anode active materials, electrolyte, binder, conductive agent, etc.
- Proven track record of conceiving and developing novel materials at industrial level driven by electrochemical and cell chemistry expertise
- Ability to develop and employ electrochemical testing methodologies per application specific requirements; ability to connect the dots between materials, properties, electrochemical data, and analytical data to guide development direction
- In-depth understanding of electrochemistry principles and their implications in battery cell and material performance
- Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and problem solving
- Experience with data acquisition systems and automation software
- Team oriented; ability to collaborate effectively with multi-functional teams and external partners
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical data and results and communicate effectively
DESCRIPTION
- Conduct comprehensive surveys and in-depth studies on various novel materials and cell chemistries; provide rigorous technical comparisons and critical assessments of their suitability for specific applications - Investigate promising materials and cell chemistry candidates using electrochemical expertise and methods, and identify focused areas for research and innovation - Drive R&D efforts to advance selected material and cell chemistry technologies with internal and external partners - Plan and execute electrochemical testing of advanced lithium-ion battery cells - Perform analysis of cell test data and evaluate results related to battery cell materials, chemistry, and performance - Design and develop new electrochemical testing methods and test protocols - Collaborate with material experts in electrochemical testing, mapping, and optimizing performance characteristics of advanced battery materials - Generate electrochemical data package to support informed material down-selection for advanced cell chemistry development - Build and maintain material benchmark databases and data analysis functions - Monitor and maintain electrochemistry laboratory testing quality - Stay updated on the latest advancements in battery technology and testing methodologies
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience. Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field with relevant industry experience preferred.
