The Electromechanical Repairs & Calibration Technician position is a career-track opportunity to join one of Canada’s premier microscope and metallurgical preparation equipment specialists.

The Electromechanical Repairs & Calibration Technician is responsible for repairs, preventative maintenance, and calibration of our diverse line of inspection, test, and measurement equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College diploma in an Engineering discipline. (Electro-Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical with strong mechanical aptitude)
  • 3-5 years of field service work experience, focused on electromechanical equipment with electrical troubleshooting skills and a strong mechanical aptitude
  • 3-5 years of calibration experience is an asset
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, electrical, and mechanical skills are essential
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams
  • Familiarity with inspection and testing equipment including microscopes, 2D/3D optical measurement systems, measurement software, metallurgical sample preparation equipment, hardness testers, tensile strength testers, analytical balances, among others is a definite asset. (Complete on the job training is provided to successful applicants).
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle to travel to job locations. (Monthly car allowance is provided)
  • Willingness to travel to different customer locations – Approximately 24 weeks per year.
  • An understanding of the basic concepts of optics, metrology and metallurgy is an asset.
  • Must be able to pass government of Canada federal security clearance
  • Must be able to legally travel internationally for training seminars.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of written and/or spoken French is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge in Excel.
  • Able to work under minimum supervision and effectively manage competing priorities ensuring work is completed within expected timelines.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • A team player who has a sense of humour, with a can-do attitude, a common-sense approach, and a sense of urgency to see tasks through to completion

Responsibilities

Performs electrical and mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance over a range of scientific equipment at customer locations and in-house.

  • Performs maintenance and repairs to various optical and mechanical equipment
  • Performs ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibrations
  • Keeps up to date with ASTM regulations
  • Modifies instruments for CSA electrical compliance
  • Accurately completes calibration worksheets, prepares, and issues relevant certificates and other paperwork as required.
  • Organizes and books travel arrangements for on-site service.
  • Prepares service estimates and quotations.
  • Provides technical support to customers.
  • Maintains customer records in the company CRM
  • Notifies and schedules upcoming jobs with customers
  • Follows all relevant health and safety policies while on job sites and working within the shop
  • Ensures completion of tasks as per the assigned deadlines
  • Stays informed of the latest industry techniques related to testing equipment, calibration methods, and service bulletins
  • Performs other work as assigned by management
